Welcome to the DeepBoard instructions!
First thing is to know that everyone can practice this new activity. Little kids with the age of 5, but always accompanied by an adult. Even the people who doesn't know how to swim can do it. In this case they also have to be supervised for people with more experience that obviously need to know how to swim very well and they are controlling constantly the situation doing the activity at the same time with them.
The DeepBoard is an activity to enjoy in group, with family and friends. Depending on the boat, it can tow; 2,3,4,5,6,7... DeepBoards without a problem and always being careful during the activity.
An adult, with good swimming skills and responsible can do DeepBoard by himself. It's not like diving. But therefore and because it's logic, he is always going to be supervised by the person controlling the boat.
It's very important to notice that minors, people with disabilities and even the people who doesn't know how to swim, they also can enjoy this wonderful activity as long as they are accompanied at all time by a responsible adult that swims very well and will be doing DeepBoard with them controlling them just in case they let go the board in order to rescue them. It's imperative that the boat will always have lifejackets for everyone on board even for the people who is not going to do the activity.
DeepBoard is the slowest towable activity in the world but also the most fun. That is why we insist to please respect the recommended speed (4 marine knots) and never exceed it. For the people that they are doing it for the first time is perfectly enough to start with 2 marine knots and little by little get confidence in order to enjoy the experience with safety and have the feeling of flying under the water.
The installation of the boards it must be done with the engine of the boat in off or neutral mode so it doesn't represent any danger for the people who is going to jump to the water to do the activity. If the boat it's going to pull several DeepBoards at the same time, it's convenient to leave a space between them and the spot where you are going to secure them. But you also may tie up two DeepBoards in the same spot without a problem and in the case they cross during the activity, there is no danger, but the only thing you need to know is that to uncross the lines they need to come back through the same place they cross in the first place. To finish with the assembly you have to make sure that they all are well secured to a cleat or snap hook in the boat. After all this and before jumping to the water, the snorkel gear must be clean and well set up before starting with the activity. Once in the water, already grabbing the DeepBoard with both hands, we must separate from the boat as long as the rope allow us and check the rope avoiding entanglements. This is the most complicated moment during the activity because many people get nervous and they get tired very fast swimming and floating in the same spot holding the boards. Therefore we always must remain calm and follow all these previous steps in order to be prepared and allow us to start the activity without any inconvenient and as fast as possible.
DeepBoard is possibly the simplest and most fun watersport to enjoy in group, with family and friends. But like any other activity, DeepBoard has some safety rules and instructions that must be known before you try it.
You and only you have the control of your DeepBoard. It's you who decide when you go up and down. When the activity is going to start, the first recommendation it's to relax and get confidence. We stretch our arms, grabbing the board with both hands and pointing up all the time in order to keep us on the surface.
We must relax and grab the board softly so we don't get tired and make an unnecessary effort. Many grab the board very hard and this produces them pain in the shoulders because they are tense and nervous. That's why the first time it's better to stay on the surface for as long as you need to relax and get confidence. The same happens with the legs, we must stretch them and relax them. We do not have to swim with the legs. No one is going to swim faster than the boat and the only thing we are going to do is to get tired faster.
Now that we have the confidence; the first step, is to take a deep breath, put your head between your arms and from the surface watch the sea and pull out your head to breath again. You can do this movement as many times as you want because you don't need to dive and you can remain in the surface all the time.
However, DeepBoard is the only towable activity that brings the action under water and it can't be more fun. That's why we encourage everyone to try the next movement, the one we call the "dolphin". It consist in making a wrist move pointing down with the board, meaning inside the water. Thanks to this we are going to be able to dive so we need to hold the breath that we previously took in the surface. Each of you will control your own apnea, so that's why we recommend that the first dolphin move will not be for very long and deep and once inside the water, we point up so the board takes us out to the surface and we can breath again.
This movement, up and down, we can do it constantly all the times we want. At the beginning we advice to not do it very deep. Like in life itself, we requiere practice to become experts.
Due to the activity doesn't require a big physical effort, we will realize that little by little we are holding our breath longer than expected. It's alright to get confidence and wanting to go deeper every time, but you must know that from 2 meters depth or even before, depending the person, we are going to start feeling a lot of pressure in our ears. And all this is normal and not to worry but to know beforehand what to do about it.
How do we relieve the pain or discomfort in the ears? Well, there are several tricks for pressure compensation but the one we recommend for the DeepBoard is the next one; we grab the board from the middle with one hand and while we dive little by little with the other hand we close our nose and with our mouth close too we blow hard compensating the pressure.
It's better to not force this trick if we are feeling discomfort so we need to go back to the surface and wait for it to disappear to try it once again. This move must be done since the first moment we start diving without having to wait to feel discomfort or even less, pain in the ear.
Once we have the pressure compensation under control, the DeepBoard experience becomes a wonderful thing allowing you with the DeepBoard to make many movements and tricks.
Before doing the activity, we recommend to make sure your swim short or bikini it's tight because without a very high speed with just the movement of the water if it's loose it can go down and be lost in the water.
As we well previously mentioned, during the DeepBoard in the surface we look down to the bottom. But once we are diving, we stop looking down and we start looking ahead of us. We can look to the sides and back; but we must not get distracted for a long time and be responsible and always look your towable line. The person controlling the boat can not see what's underneath so you are the only one responsible to be aware of the area when you are diving. That's why, we please insist that the recommended speed (2/4 marine knots) must be respected in order to react with time and be able to go up to the surface totally safe.
One of the huge mistakes and more common ones that people do during the activity, it's the movement called the "turtle". The beginners being inside the water, sometimes they don't realize and they try to take their heads out of the water stretching their necks, while they are forgetting on the other hand the DeepBoard that is pointing down and it doesn't allow them to come back to the surface. To get out to the surface, the first thing you must do is taking out the board by pointing up and keep it that way even on the surface in order to take your head out and remain in the surface pointing up so you can breath all the time you need.
Another of the things that bother a lot during the DeepBoard is to have your snorkel mask very foggy. To avoid this, we must clean them very well before doing the activity and put them correctly so we are confortable with them. Therefore we also recommend to do a snorkeling first to be happy with them. During the DeepBoard we must breath through our mouth and not through our nose because this make them get blurry faster. On the surface during the activity we can hold the board from the middle with one hand and with the other one lift the down part of the snorkel mask and get your head in the water in order to clean them. If it's not easy to follow this instructions, it's preferable to stop the boat, clean them well and put them correctly. You must never take off your snorkel mask during the activity because it's not possible to put it back again
Another important precaution to have in mind, is that when you are diving, and when you want to go up to the surface, you have to do it carefully always looking up to not crash with another person doing DeepBoard that's already on the surface and we didn't see.
The next indication is the most important of all of them. The boat must never stop for any reason while the people is doing the activity and they are still diving. The reason why we must wait respectfully till everyone that is doing DeepBoard is on the surface is very simple. Each person has a different capacity and you can not know how much air they have left to come back to the surface. When you do DeepBoard if you point a lot down or up, the DeepBoard will make you dive or take you out to the surface very fast. So in the case you are diving and holding your breath to the limit and suddenly the boat stops you are not going to be able to come back as fast as you could with the DeepBoard. That's the reason why we must wait for everyone to be on the surface in order to stop the boat and finish with the activity.
We do not recommend to do DeepBoard to the people who is cold, sick and have ear problems.
Pregnant women can do DeepBoard but they need special attention and it's advisable to be accompanied.
The areas where the activity is going to take place must be regulated and they must be allowed by the Coast laws. Never do it in protected areas. The people in charge is the one controlling the boat, is the one who must supervised the activity up close, with the help of another person if possible and be constantly respecting the recommended speed and of course to be watching for other boats that can get too close and represent a serious danger to the people doing the activity.
DeepBoard must not be done in waters with low visibility or if the weather conditions are not the best. The sea must be as calm as possible to fully enjoy the DeepBoard experience.
